I am able to program and mark fishing hot spots so I know where I need to go when I go back on the lakes. The unit is very lightweight, easy to carry and the colored LCD is bright and easy to read (even in sunlight). That may be because I use he full detail feature.
It works great with no problems. The battery life is good depending on usage.
I purchased the Garmin eTrex Legend CX exclusively for ice fishing. The only issue I get frustrated with is that the initial start-up of the unit takes about 5 minutes to find the satellite signal in my area.
Also I like the fact that is it compatible with the pre-programmed SD cards like the Garmin 010-C0458-00 Inland Lakes Data Card for the Northeast U.S. Just slide in the card and it is ready to use, no downloading or installation required.
However when the signal is found, it stay's acquired and is never lost. The rubberized housing makes it easy to hold and not slip out of your hands. Some great optional accessories you may want to consider are:GARMIN 010-10314-00 Carrying CaseSony Power Battery Charger with 4 AA Ni-MH Rechargeable BatteriesGARMIN 010-10563-00 12V Adapter Cable
These are perfect for my weed spraying business. Tracks every step-measures acres-marks bad spots-measures distance-does everything I need and is very light. I love this GPS.
Great product - I recently used it to map remote waypoints in Ecuador, South America. Also, loading waypoints from a friend's Garmin GPS was seamless. I am very happy with this GPS - great price and great service from vendor.
Im sure I will use it even when Im not in Iraq, I like going outdoors and it came with a disk of Map of the Americas. I am in the Army, currently in Iraq, you can change it to read MGRS witch is what we use and it will tell you the grid in military terms. It has other usefull abilities that I can use when I get back to the world. and all the accsories you need. Great product.
This is a very useful tool. Software is out there, just have to look for it.
